India to ship nearly 200,000 tonnes of grain in March 2018

India is planning to ship about 200,00 tonnes of rice and maize per month by March 2019, an increase of about 30 percent from the previous month.

The country’s Food Security Ministry said in a statement on Thursday that the total will represent a 20 percent increase over the last month and a 70 percent increase from the month before.

The ministry also said the plan will enable the country to maintain high standards of food safety and nutrition and boost agricultural productivity.

The plan aims to increase the food production by about 3 million tonnes per month over the first year, the statement said.
