Carnival ship caught in storm, cruise ship rescued

A Carnival ship has caught fire in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Newfoundland, CBC News has learned.

The Coast Guard responded to a call of an explosion at about 1 p.m.

ET Monday near the mouth of the Atlantic.

Crews were searching for the cause of the fire.

The ship was being towed by a tug boat from the port of St. John’s to the port on Newfoundland.

It is not yet known how many people were on board.
